As of the day before yesterday, I am the proud father of a beautiful baby girl. If she grows up into a beautiful woman, I hope she meets men like me, men who will look at her as more than just a piece of meat. There is nothing wrong with sex, and I hope she enjoys her share of it, but if we ever have this discussion, I will tell her that sex is so much better when it’s with someone who admires her for more than her long legs and blue eyes. I will also tell her that when men don’t ask and don’t care what else she’s about, they are probably men who live empty lives, lives without interesting, accomplished women. I will advise her to stay away from these men, because they are the emotional equivalent of dietary sugar. The thrill is momentary but the damage is long term. She won’t always listen, and for that, I will not judge her, but if I raise her right and help make her strong and confident, trivial relationships will hold little allure for her and she will make few mistakes. That’s what her father hopes.
