Keep things on a very low simmer. Text her every few weeks. Keep those texts light, nonsense pings. You can feel it out, but it is possible to have a conversation with her on the phone every few months. Even that though, I would keep to about ten minutes long. Throw in a little bit of, “Let’s hang out soon,” without making a specific date. You can pretty much keep things going indefinitely like this for a long time.

Texted her to see if she got back home safely and exchanged a few messages about how if we ever found ourselves in each other’s town to let one another know.

I’m not into either of these types of messages. You’re much better off with a nonsense or sexual ping than asking if she got home okay. And saying something like let’s hang out again if we’re in town isn’t that great either. It puts too many expectations on things. It’s better to just show her what you want rather than telling her.
