Two recent studies published in LiveScience Journal with interesting results.

Everyone Agrees: Women Are Hard to Read

Researchers showed video clips from speed dates to unrelated male and female observers.

They asked the observers two simple questions:

“Do you think the man was interested in this woman?” and “Do you think the woman was interested in this man?”

Their answers were then compared with the responses of the speed daters themselves.

The results show that both men and women are able to gauge a man’s interest in a woman but both men and women are equally baffled when it comes to figuring out if a woman is interested in a man.

Body Language Reveals Socioeconomic Status

Researchers videotaped pairs of strangers in one-on-one interviews. They looked for gestures that indicate level of interest in the other person during one-minute slices of each conversation.

They found that students whose parents were from higher socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds engaged in more of what he called “impolite” behaviors, such as grooming, doodling and fidgeting.

Lower SES students showed more “I’m interested” gestures, including laughter and raising of the eyebrows.
