Rumi’s “The Guest House”
Eric Disco
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Awesome poem. No one moves me emotionally the way Rumi and Hafiz do, amazing mystic shit. Its weird to hit up the site and find this particular poem though because it was just yesterday that someone had mentioned it to me and I made a note to dig it up again. Anyway, awesome, thanks

Wow…that was calming. Thanks for sharing that Eric.
Any guy who thinks this post is not related to approach anxiety isn’t taking his ‘guest house’ and putting it out there enough. :)
